Classroom Activities

I created a Peru Padlet to organize the resources I was gathering but also for fellow teachers to use in their own classrooms. Our countywide reading curriculum has a unit on Machu Picchu and Inca culture.
Paddington Bear Connections
Although I was not familiar with Paddingon Bear books as a child, I quickly became a fan when I realized he was a Spectacled Bear from "Darkest Peru". The new movie, "Paddington in Peru" provided a wonderful opportunity for students to make a connection and build back ground knowledge.

The students are looking forward to reviewing the blog to see where I will bring my Paddington when travelling in Peru

After reviewing the roles llamas and alpacas have in Peruvian indigenous culture, the students tried their own hand at creating weaving projects aimed at promoting appreciation for the infamous Peruvian handiwork.

Becoming expert weavers
Pan flutes crafts
Students became musicians! After learning about pan flutes and quena wooden flutes we made our own. First, we plugged one end of boba tea straws with glue, cut straws to different lengths, discussed the science behind producing sound waves. They were so excited to take their instruments home!
